Hi, I’m Caryl ……..

I'm the founder and instructor behind The Mind Body Union, and I believe movement is one of the most powerful ways we can connect with and care for our bodies.

I’m a mum of two, originally from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, a wife to my amazing husband, Matt (he’s a big Eagles fan), and a lifelong lover of movement, food, and adventure. I played Division I lacrosse at the University of Maryland—Go Terps! 🐢 —and that experience shaped my appreciation for strength, discipline, teamwork, and what our bodies are capable of.

My curiosity about movement eventually took me around the world. I spent nine years living in India, where I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training, and thats actually where my kids were born. While there I took a career change, and adventured to Singapore, where I completed my STOTT PILATES® certification.

Travel continues to be a huge part of my life, and I’m always learning, exploring, and working on something new for myself. I believe we’re never finished learning about our bodies—or ourselves—and that movement is one of the best ways to stay connected, curious, and engaged in life. And everything is always connected.

Oh, and we have a dog!

Philosophy

My own movement journey has taken me through many different chapters—from competitive lacrosse, my marathon era, yoga, motherhood, travel, menopause and eventually just life. Each has taught me something different about strength, balance, resilience, and the importance of listening to your body.

Those experiences shape the way I teach today. I believe movement should be personal, purposeful, and adaptable. I love helping people understand their bodies, work toward their goals, and discover what they're capable of—whether they're just beginning, returning to movement, or looking for a new challenge.

My STOTT PILATES® training provides a comprehensive foundation across the full range of Pilates equipment, including the Reformer, Cadillac, Stability Chair, and Barrels, as well as Matwork and specialized props. The training emphasizes anatomy, biomechanics, alignment, breathing, and individualized exercise modifications, giving me the tools to adapt and progress sessions based on each person's body, experience, and goals.

I spent nine years living in India, where my curiosity about movement and the mind-body connection deepened. I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and spent time in an ashram in Rishikesh, immersing myself in practices that emphasized mindfulness, breath, awareness, and connection. Those experiences continue to influence the way I approach movement today.

Each year, I continue to expand my knowledge of movement and the human body.

The Beginning

I created The Mind Body Union because I wanted to offer something that felt personal. A space where you can leave the outside world at the door, focus on yourself, and receive movement instruction that is truly tailored to you. My experiences with athletics, yoga, travel, and Pilates have shaped my belief that movement can be both challenging and nurturing—and that there is tremendous value in having a space where you can simply be where you are.
